At Zuckerberg San Francisco General, patients get great care for them and their families, and in cases of emergency or trauma, a new state-of-the-art trauma center and expert surgeons and emergency teams are combining to save lives.

In 2017 Dr. Peggy Knudson was recognized for her emergency intervention, surgery, and recovery care of 6-year old Zachery Vines. On September 30, 2016 Zachery was rushed to the ZSFG trauma center with life-threatening injuries. Dr. Knudson quickly assessed his dire condition and immediately had him prepared for surgery. Her quick thinking and expert surgical skills saved Zachery’s life and he has now fully recovered and is back in kindergarten.

In 2017 Anais Amaya and Jia-Min Cheng were recognized for their programmatic partnerships that extend the care of ZSFG patients, and connect them directly to resources that help them overcome legal obstacles in their lives that impact their and their families’ health and well-being. Through Health Advocates and the Medical-Legal Partnership, Anais and Jia-Min are improving the quality of life for ZSFG patients and helping advance the health outcomes of patients seeking care.

In 2017 Dr. Dean Schillinger was recognized for his numerous contributions in research and programming related to health literacy, diabetes, and public health, as well as his transformative role in setting standards for relationship-centered care. He has also channeled his dedication to primary care and patient well-being at ZSFG into impactful programs that foster greater community health outside of ZSFG and clinics.
